My second image of the week in this series is a simple scene setting picture. Within documentary wedding photographer, each wedding day needs a series of pictures to lead the viewer in; that go someway to explaining the all important details of the four W’s – Who, What, When and Where.
I had just rushed from the other side of Dorchester where I had been covering the bridal preparations, and arrived at Athelhampton House. Upon walking through the gates to the property I was greeted by this gorgeous wedding detail that just bowled me over. Not only was it sentimental, it was the perfect scene setter for me and the narrative I was going to record for Mel & Paul, but for every family member and guest attending that day.
Upon being greeted by this sign everybody attending that day knew a little more about the couple and how their public statement was so important to them. We often think of a wedding being a public statement for one couple and the two families, but they are often very much about the wider wedding community and the forging of new relationships that will in turn lead to more marriages. Lovingly crafted by the mother of the Bride – it has to be one of the sweetest wedding details I have seen.
This picture on its own brings back happy memories for me for that day, a hot summer wedding with a plethora of great images reminding me of the many virtues of being a wedding photographer Bournemouth.
