At Smiling Tiger Studios, we believe traditions deserve to be understood, not simply photographed.
We’ve been fortunate to photograph culturally rich weddings from Delhi to celebrations across the UK – from vibrant Sikh and Hindu weddings to intimate Muslim ceremonies, Japanese traditions and beautifully mixed celebrations that don’t necessarily belong beneath a single label.
Every one has been different.
And that’s exactly what interests us.
Beyond the colour, ceremony and incredible traditions, it’s the people and relationships surrounding them that we’re drawn to.
A parent trying to hold back tears. The chaos and laughter of friends and family coming together. A nervous glance before a ceremony begins. Two families, sometimes from opposite sides of the world, suddenly sharing the same dance floor.
These moments aren’t on the schedule.
They’re simply happening.
And we’re looking for them.

Traditions matter because of the people and stories behind them.
That’s why good documentary photography at a multicultural wedding requires more than simply turning up and reacting.
We want to understand what’s happening, why it matters and the people at the heart of it.
Not because we want to choreograph anything.
Quite the opposite.
Understanding the rhythm of a ceremony gives us the freedom to anticipate what’s coming while keeping an eye on everything happening around it.
The tearful glance during a Vidaai. Parents quietly watching from across the room. Children weaving between generations of family. The reaction nobody else noticed because everyone was looking the other way.
The ceremony gives us the structure.

The Smiling Tiger eye
Smiling Tiger Studios was founded by Linus Moran following 15 years working as a professional photojournalist for Fleet Street titles.
That experience taught him to watch, listen and anticipate – to recognise when something is developing and be in the right place before the moment arrives.
It’s an instinct that became the foundation of Smiling Tiger Studios.
Today, every photographer representing the studio is chosen for those same qualities – curiosity, emotional awareness, timing and an ability to find the story happening beyond the obvious.

Smiling Tiger Studios is based in Weymouth, Dorset, and we photograph weddings across Dorset, Hampshire, Somerset and throughout the UK.
Travel within the UK is included in our full-day wedding collections. For weddings further afield, we’ll simply let you know if accommodation or additional travel is needed.
Send us your wedding date and a few details through the enquiry form.
We’ll check availability across the Smiling Tiger team and come back to you personally, usually within 24 hours.
If we’re available, we can then arrange a short Zoom call to hear what you’re planning, answer your questions and see whether we’re the right fit.
Smiling Tiger Studios is led by Linus, with a carefully selected team of photographers working to the same creative approach and standards.
Depending on your collection, date and coverage, your wedding may be photographed by Linus, Will or another STS photographer.

You’ll always know who is covering your wedding well before the day itself.
Very little.
We’ll give you direction when it helps – particularly for couple portraits and family photographs – but we’re not interested in turning your wedding into a photoshoot.
For most of the day, we want you concentrating on each other and the people around you.
Your photographs fit around your wedding. Not the other way around.
Absolutely.
Those photographs matter, so we’ll organise them efficiently and keep the list focused on the people who are genuinely important to you.
Around 6-8 essential groups usually works well without taking you away from your guests for too long.
Then we get everyone back to the wedding.
Yes. You can book photography, film, or both.
When we cover both, our photographers and filmmakers work with the same documentary philosophy, so you don’t have two separate teams competing for your attention.
Photography lets you stop and return to individual moments.
Film brings back voices, movement, laughter and atmosphere.
Different ways of remembering the same wedding.
We usually send a small photography preview within 48-72 hours, with the full gallery normally following within around two weeks.
For film collections, we aim to send a short preview within around three weeks, with the full highlight film usually delivered within around six weeks.
We deliberately let the photographs arrive first and have their own moment before film brings the wedding back in a completely different way.
This is one of the advantages of booking a studio rather than relying entirely on one person.
If the photographer assigned to your wedding became genuinely unable to attend, our first priority would be arranging suitable replacement cover from within the STS team.
Whatever happens behind the scenes, the aim is simple:
your wedding photography remains properly looked after.
Your traditions. Your people. Your wedding.
One ceremony or three. One day or several. One culture, two cultures or something that doesn’t need defining at all.
