At Smiling Tiger Studios, we believe your wedding should never be forced into a formula. We tune into the people, relationships and energy already there, allowing the photography and film to grow naturally from the day you’ve created.
You don’t need to perform for us.
Enjoy your wedding. Spend time with your people. Laugh loudly, cry if it happens and forget we’re there whenever possible.

Because they describe how we see and photograph weddings better than any photography label ever could.
We look for emotion in all its forms. Tender, ridiculous, quiet, chaotic and occasionally completely absurd.
Often it’s the smallest gesture that says the most – a reassuring hand before walking down the aisle, a parent’s expression across the room, friends losing themselves during the speeches or the fleeting look between two people that nobody else noticed.
Those moments aren’t created by us.
They’re already there.
Our job is to see them.

Documentary wedding photography is sometimes called reportage or wedding photojournalism. Whatever name you give it, our belief is simple:
we believe your wedding should be allowed to happen.
We work observationally, anticipating moments rather than manufacturing them and stepping in only when a little guidance genuinely helps.
That doesn’t mean you’ll have no portraits or family photographs.
You absolutely will.
We’ll simply create them efficiently and naturally, without turning your wedding into a succession of photoshoots.
The rest of the time, you’re free to be present with the people you’ve brought together.
The Smiling Tiger eye
Smiling Tiger Studios was founded by Linus Moran after 15 years working as a professional photojournalist for Fleet Street titles.
That world teaches you something difficult to learn from a textbook: how to anticipate.
To read people. To recognise when something is developing. To understand where to position yourself before the moment arrives – and to tell a much bigger story through individual frames.
That experience became the foundation of the Smiling Tiger approach.
Today, every photographer representing the studio is chosen for those same qualities: curiosity, emotional awareness, timing and an instinct for finding the story happening beyond the obvious.

From intimate elopements to multi-day celebrations, the same philosophy runs through everything we create – natural storytelling without turning your wedding into a production.
Film brings voices, movement and atmosphere into the story. Photography catches fractions of a second that might otherwise disappear forever.
Together, they create something incredibly powerful.
CAA-licensed drone coverage can also bring another perspective to your story when the location, conditions and venue allow it.

Additional photographers, pre-wedding shoots, albums and extended coverage can be added where they genuinely add something to the story.
Our team allows us to offer the same documentary philosophy and creative standard across more dates and locations.
Pre-wedding shoots
For anyone who feels uncomfortable in front of a camera, a pre-wedding shoot can make a real difference.
It’s not about practising poses.
It’s simply an opportunity to spend some time together, get comfortable with the way we work and discover that being photographed doesn’t have to feel awkward.
Keep it simple. A favourite walk, the coast, a coffee, somewhere meaningful – somewhere you can concentrate on each other rather than the camera.

We approach them with curiosity and respect, taking time to understand what matters, what’s about to happen and the relationships behind it.

Smiling Tiger Studios is based in Weymouth, Dorset, and we photograph weddings across Dorset, Hampshire, Somerset and throughout the UK.
Travel within the UK is included in our full-day wedding collections. For weddings further afield, we’ll simply let you know if accommodation or additional travel is needed.

We’ll check availability across the Smiling Tiger team and come back to you personally, usually within 24 hours.
If we’re available, we can then arrange a short Zoom call to hear what you’re planning, answer your questions and see whether we’re the right fit.

Depending on your collection, date and coverage, your wedding may be photographed by Linus, Will or another STS photographer.

You’ll always know who is covering your wedding well before the day itself.
Very little.
We’ll give you direction when it helps – particularly for couple portraits and family photographs – but we’re not interested in turning your wedding into a photoshoot.
For most of the day, we want you concentrating on each other and the people around you.
Your photographs fit around your wedding. Not the other way around.
Absolutely.
Those photographs matter, so we’ll organise them efficiently and keep the list focused on the people who are genuinely important to you.
Around 6-8 essential groups usually works well without taking you away from your guests for too long.
Then we get everyone back to the wedding.
Yes. You can book photography, film, or both.
When we cover both, our photographers and filmmakers work with the same documentary philosophy, so you don’t have two separate teams competing for your attention.
Photography lets you stop and return to individual moments.
Film brings back voices, movement, laughter and atmosphere.
Different ways of remembering the same wedding.
We usually send a small photography preview within 48-72 hours, with the full gallery normally following within around two weeks.
For film collections, we aim to send a short preview within around three weeks, with the full highlight film usually delivered within around six weeks.
We deliberately let the photographs arrive first and have their own moment before film brings the wedding back in a completely different way.
This is one of the advantages of booking a studio rather than relying entirely on one person.
If the photographer assigned to your wedding became genuinely unable to attend, our first priority would be arranging suitable replacement cover from within the STS team.
Whatever happens behind the scenes, the aim is simple:
your wedding photography remains properly looked after.
