Kingston Maurward House

Beautifully situated in the heart of Dorchester, Kingston Maurward House and gardens contain some of the most stunning scenery in the south. With grounds bathed in history, the picturesque lake, broad sweeping lawns and formal gardens are really something to behold.

This 18th century Mansion House was built for George Pitt, a cousin of Prime Minister Pitt the younger.  The Mansion features in Thomas Hardy’s first published novel “Desperate Remedies” as “Knapwater House”.  Nearby lies Stinsford Parish Church, which had a strong association with the Hardy family.

With such striking features both inside and out the venue serves as a stunning setting for a wedding reception or full ceremony, housing suites such as The Old Library, an ideal location for a civil ceremony.

The impressive venue is set in idyllic surroundings and is sure to make your special day one you and your guests will never forget.  With each detail planned to perfection you can rest assured everything is in safe and professional hands.

The Mansion House and its beautiful state rooms are situated in a tranquil, peaceful and intimate spot within undulating Dorset countryside, providing photographic opportunities to enjoy for years to come.

Inside the house you can choose from four elegant rooms licensed to hold civil marriage ceremonies allowing all of your celebrations to be held at one venue. We are pleased to cater for both wedding ceremonies and receptions on any day of the week.

Naming Ceremonies, Re-Affirmation of Vows and Commitment Ceremonies can also be held at Kingston Maurward.
