What we’ll remember is what happened inside it.
The nerves before the ceremony. Friends reunited. Parents watching from across the room. Somebody laughing at exactly the wrong moment. The conversations and reactions happening while everybody else is looking somewhere completely different.
That’s where Smiling Tiger comes in.
We photograph weddings across Somerset with a documentary approach shaped by years of photojournalism and an instinct for the things happening around the obvious.
We don’t take you away from your wedding to create the story.
We find the story while you’re living it.

Our approach is documentary first – the wedding is allowed to happen, with direction only when it genuinely helps.
We don’t need to constantly stop it, rearrange it or turn it into something for the camera.
We’ll organise the family photographs.

And we’ll usually find a few short opportunities for the two of you to step away together, catch your breath and make some beautiful portraits.
Then we’ll send you straight back to your people.

Here’s the strange thing about your own wedding.
You’ll miss loads of it.
You can’t see the expression on a parent’s face while you’re walking into the ceremony.
You won’t know what your friends were doing somewhere else while you were getting ready.
While you’re talking to one group of people, another story is unfolding behind you.
And when everybody is concentrating on the obvious moment, that’s often when something brilliant happens around the edges.
You can’t possibly see all of it.
That’s our job.
We’re not simply photographing the wedding you remember.

Yes. Smiling Tiger Studios is based in neighbouring Dorset and regularly photographs weddings throughout Somerset.
Our standard wedding collections include UK travel, so normal Somerset coverage doesn’t attract an additional travel charge.
No.
Knowing somewhere can be useful, but we don’t rely on predetermined photographs or locations.
We arrive early, look at the spaces, light, weather and how the wedding is actually taking shape that day, then work from there.
We’d rather respond to your wedding than recreate somebody else’s.
Absolutely.
Documentary doesn’t mean refusing to organise anything.
We’ll take the family photographs that matter and give you gentle direction when we photograph the two of you.
We simply don’t want either to take over the wedding.
Yes. You can choose photography, film or combined coverage.
When we’re working as a team, photography and film follow the same Smiling Tiger philosophy so neither is competing to control what’s happening.
We normally aim to send a small preview within 48-72 hours, with the complete photography gallery usually ready within around two weeks.
Film previews normally follow within around three weeks, with the complete highlight film targeted for around six weeks.
The place matters.
Somerset can give you beautiful houses, open countryside, gardens, barns and spectacular places to bring everybody together.
But those won’t be the things that make a photograph important twenty years from now.
The people will.
The ones who made you laugh.
The ones trying not to cry.
The ones who surprised you.
