Worried about rain on your wedding day? Here’s why it’s not the disaster you think
Let’s be honest—no matter how well you plan, you can’t control the weather. And in the UK, it’s fair to say we’ve all learned to expect a bit of the unexpected.
So what happens if it rains on your wedding day?
At Smiling Tiger Studios, we’ve photographed weddings in all conditions—from sun-drenched coastal days to sideways rain in a muddy field. The truth is, rain doesn’t ruin the story—it becomes part of it.
Here’s what you need to know if the skies open up.
Rain Adds Mood, Atmosphere & Emotion
There’s something about rain that brings people together. Guests huddling under umbrellas. Laughter in the drizzle. A couple dancing under soft, grey skies.
It adds mood, drama, and intimacy—especially in photos. Think windswept veils, reflections in puddles, warm embraces against the cold.
We lean into it. It’s all part of your story.

How We Adapt Our Approach
We’re documentary photographers, which means we already work intuitively and adapt to changing light and movement.
In the rain, we:
- Use creative indoor or sheltered spots
- Look for beautiful window light or reflective surfaces
- Keep couple portraits short, natural, and dry-ish
- Always bring weather-ready gear (for us and our kit!)
You won’t be left wondering what to do—we’ll guide gently and keep things fun.
Embrace It—Don’t Fight It
The best thing you can do is lean in. Bring a beautiful brolly. Laugh through it. Hold hands and run for shelter. The more you embrace it, the more fun you’ll have—and the better the images will be.
We’ve seen some of the most joyful, spontaneous moments happen in the rain. It’s real. It’s memorable. And it makes for iconic photos.

Have a Loose Backup Plan
Chat to your venue about indoor options, marquee cover, or sheltered portrait spots. It doesn’t have to be perfect—it just needs to give you space to be together.
We’ll help scout options and suggest timings to make the most of any breaks in the weather. Flexibility is key.
Rain or Shine, Your Day Will Be Beautiful
What makes a wedding memorable isn’t the forecast—it’s the people, the energy, and the love in the room. And that shines, rain or not.
We’ll be right there with you, capturing it all with calm, quiet confidence. Smiles, tears, puddles and all.
