When a traditional photo ceases to be traditional and becomes spontaneous
Fresh out of the camera for this weeks Image of the Week. A golden moment highlighting the joys of wedding photography in Dorset.
This was from the church ceremony of Emma & Tom and their wedding at the Holy Trinity in Bothenhampton, Bridport.
The funny thing with this particular wedding was that a few days before, I was warned that there may be problems with photography being allowed inside the church.
This is something that crops up every now & again, whether it be down to the vicars having bad experience of amateur photographers or that they believe recording golden moments in life unimportant – who knows!
Either way I was planning on using my powers of persuasion to get access and to do the best for the couple and my photography.
Needless to say, my charm & powers of persuasion were not needed as we had unneccesarily worried ourselves. The two vicars performing the wedding were very accomodating.
Why include this in the Image of the Week section?
Quite simply because it has that extra element that takes it out of the purely ‘formal’ category.
It is one of those ‘formal’ images often taken but more often expected to be done. Straight after the signing of the marriage register – the set up shot of the Bride & Groom and their witnesses.
As I was arranging the group one of the vicars noticed that the young flower girl had fallen asleep on her fathers lap, thereby relinquishing her flower petal scattering duties 😉
So the Vicar took it upon herself to step into the role, clasping the petal basket, dashing up to the pulpit, she began showering petals down upon the couple!
It instantly transformed a traditional, static shot into something spontaneous, full of life and a little more documentary – just the way I like it.
To think that the day had started with a little dark cloud, with us thinking there would be problems. The ceremony was beautiful, full of charm and fun – just perfect!
