St Osmunds Church Osmington | Dorset Wedding Venues

A beautiful church in a very picturesque village. The place name of Osmington was mentioned in the Domesday Book but is certainly even older than that. The Anglo-Saxon Charter lists land in Dorset granted to the Monastery at Middleton (Milton Abbey) by King Athelstan, including land in ‘Osmyntone’. The date given is 15th April, AD 939.

A former Vicar, Archdeacon John Fisher and John Constable were great friends, and in the latter part of 1816 Constable and hisnewly-married wife spent their honeymoon at Osmington Vicarage. It was then that he made a number of sketches and paintings of Osmington and Weymouth Bay.
