[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]An open air Kingston Maurward wedding was a wonderful day to witness and capture for Kelly and Gavin.
Astounding to have been so lucky with the perfect springtime weather.
It was an outdoor ceremony on the steps of the Grecian Temple, we had a warming full sun, still air and everyone had come equipped with sunglasses!
This was a wedding that I had been looking forward to for some time. Having first struck up a friendship with Kelly a number of years ago, when she started cutting my hair, I talked about my work and she talked about her wedding plans.
Things developed with the result of being asked to capture her wedding. I got to hear all the developments and plans as they came together, the momentum built in conjunction with the anticipation.
My first real introduction to Gavin came when we worked on a themed Bridal shoot at Cleeve Abbey in Somerset. We needed some models to style, and Kelly and Gavin sprung to mind.
Both were keen on the idea, which was perfect – it made a big difference to the resulting photos, being a ‘real’ couple. Not only did we have a themed shoot on our hands, we also had an engagement shoot with a difference!
Sharing this background with Kelly & Gavin, knowing how they interacted, how they were, , what they liked etc – all went to assist in my approach to their wedding. They wanted in natural, documentary, with minimal arranged group shots day. They wanted a photofilm, with the audio soundtrack of their day being recorded, catching the ceremony vows and after dinner speeches.
Open Air Kingston Maurward Wedding
It was a perfect day with so many personal touches coming together. From Mum doing her daughters hair (she is also a hair stylist), hand made table settings, invitations, ornaments, and sweet trees. Live music being provided by local artist and friend of the couple – Lauren Bannon. She serenaded the bride down the aisle, along with singing the first dance – Etta James ‘ At last’!
One last thing… I know it impressed me along with a number of others. A quote used in the opening ceremony reading was quite remarkable. It’s not one that I have ever heard before and certainly not one used in the ‘average’ wedding ceremony, but there again, this wasn’t an average wedding by any measure.

“Love is like a friendship caught on fire.
In the beginning a flame, very pretty, often hot and fierce, but still only light and flickering.
As love grows older, our hearts mature and our love becomes as coals, deep-burning and unquenchable.”
– Bruce Lee
