Weymouth Wedding of Peter & Mary followed by a soiree at Portland House

It was lovely to be invited back to document another big family celebration and another Weymouth Wedding.

Having previously photographed Mary’s Son Alistair’s wedding 2 years earlier, I was looking forward to catching up again with the family. Alistair now had a cute little son Fynn and the dynamics in this family were going to change once again.

It was touched upon during the speeches that this was a ‘rushed’ wedding. Rushed in so far as the date had been bought forward a ‘wee’ bit as a family member was emmigrating. Peter and Mary have been a couple for the best part of 30 years.

Their Weymouth wedding was held at the local registry office, with family and guests congregating back at Portland House for an afternoon Soiree!

Although unlucky with the weather, it didn’t dampen the spirit of the day – on the contrary, I think this must have been one of the most memorable weddings I have witnessed.

I’m used to seeing young couples in love. Couples that have already spent time together before their wedding day, some a matter of months others a number of years but this wedding pretty much caught me off guard. I had expected to see a relaxed couple, almost going through the ritual of making their union ‘official’. what I wasn’t prepared for was for the nerves, emotion and love that was shown that day.

I was met by a nervous groon, a little flustered with his notes as I arrived at the registry office. Later, upon casting his eyes on Mary walking down the aisle, my camera caught a quivering lip and upon placing rings, a blood stained thumb from nervous picking was pictured. But these were small significant details from an over all touching ceremony. Having chosen their own vows in the form of poems – this ceremony was uniquely different to all the other Weymouth weddings I have covered.

Peter & Mary surprised me on the day with the emotions I captured, but I imagine so too were many of the guests.

I have heard of couples dancing down the aisle, but today I was going to see it and what better way for a newly married couple to leave the room than dancing to the Blues Brothers ” Everybody needs somebody to love”

They certainly did it in style…Many congratulations!!
