I’m the first person to admit to my own apathy when talking politics. But last week I had an unusual change to the usual telephone enquiries for my wedding photography services.
I had a call from a Peter Reynolds who wanted some professional portraits taken, that could be used on campaign literature and the like. He said he had “been elected as the leader of a political party” – although i didn’t ask there and then, it did get me wondering.
On meeting Peter on Saturday and asking what the political party was, he told me that he was now the leader of the LCA – Legalise Cannabis Alliance.
One of their prime objectives is the to get the laws in the UK changed to allow Cannabis to be prescribed and used in the treatment of illness. This would only bring the UK to a similar legal view point as much of the rest of Europe.
He gave me an illustration of the imbalance in our legal system, where any other European citizen can visit the UK , carry and use cannabis whilst here in the UK ( as long as they have evidence of it having been prescribed ). The British legal system allows this, but if you are British and partake in any Cannabis use, you are a law breaker. In the UK the use of Cannabis for the treatment of illnesses is illegal.
It seems quite reasonable that we should all expect similar treatment under European Law in the UK. I wish the LCA and Peter Reynolds the best of luck with their campaigning.
