This week I have chosen to show an image from one of the first weddings I covered upon returning to the UK. It was from one of the Sundridge Park Manor Weddings – Grant & Claire.
The wedding was a great day as they were such a fun couple, really good sports and as I recall, they spent most of the time in fits of laughiter – the way it should be! I was second shooting this wedding with an old friend of mine and at the time was at liberty to experiment and try more creative shots, not normally considered when being the primary photographer. This picture isn’t anything particularly clever, but it is a great example of working with the available light, be it artificial, way into the evening.
There was a good distance between the speaker (Father of the Bride) the Bride & Groom and rest of the guests. It was only by working with the available light that I managed to maintain the integrity of the moment. I wanted to keep all the main characters in view, showing what was going on, whilst not over shadowing and dominating the environment with the introduction of multiple flash or video lights.
I believe in keeping the spot-light firmly of the wedding couple and their guests whilst capturing the days events as a low key observer. Something more easily achieved when working fast and without courting attention.
