This image from last weekend’s wedding was a clear contender from the start for my image of the week post. It has many of the elements that I love to capture within my Wedding Photography in Dorset.
Compositionally it works as a wide shot – clearly telling the story within the image. The main subjects are perfectly lit from the available light coming in through the stained glass windows whilst they sign the wedding register. I love the way the light illuminates the bride’s dress and the vicar is stooped over the couple giving guidance.
In the background is the entire bridal party, something new for me, having previously only known a few witnesses to be brought forward to the signing chapel area. The way the light just bearly captures them, just giving enough detail to let you know who they are but at the same time maintaining the area of attention clearly on the Bride & Groom.
This image was one of those perfect examples of when Black & White was the only choice. Although the stained glass was lovely, it would of been distracting within this image. Monochrome tells the story and creates a timeless documentary moment.
