Best Lyme Regis Wedding Photography
I could’nt hold back with this one till tomorrow’s usual Image of the weeek post – so here it is now!
From Thursdays wedding of Ed and Heidi in Lyme Regis. A small intimate wedding on the world famous Jurassic coast at Lyme Regis, Dorset.
My choice of image for this feature more often than not tends to favour the documentary approach, capturing the candid moments where raw emotion and spontaneity meet.
But this time, this relaxed portrait of the couple stood out to me whilst casting my eyes over the the initial scan through the day’s images. Its simple, yet strong. I like the great light and tones. Strangely the seagull adds its own little artistic touch!
If I had to explain my style I would have to say that its 90% documentary.
Observation or people watching is what I like to do within the wedding environment. My key virtue is the speed at which I work, constantly scanning for opportunities to capture, and if its not happening I move on to find different subjects or to to change my prespective.
I apply this mentality to any arranged portraits I find myself doing. Whether it be at the request of the Bride and Groom or my own artistic desires to exploit the merits of a particular locations setting. I often lead a couple into an area I think will offer rewarding imagery and then leave them to be themselves.
This is where the speed and minimal fuss comes in. I move quickly choosing the best view point, often adopting several ‘takes’ on the image, but its all done quickly. It’s paramount interest to me to keep an awareness of how the couple are interacting with never allowing creative photography to become tiresome. My pace reflects what I believe – that the most important people at a wedding are the people.
I want the bride & groom to spend as much time with their guests as possible. Therefore the creative portraits can be worked in and around things. A few small sessions in the day is usually sufficient to please everyone, achieving a balance between natural documentary photography and fine art creative portraits.
