As a documentary wedding photographer I joyfully witness many photographic moments presented throughout the day, from the formality in the service to the relaxed after dinner banter between guests. Capturing these moments is what really drives a documentary wedding photographer, it keeps the adrenalin running through our veins, striving to get the images that ‘say it all’!
Often I achieve my goal and take pictures that have all the ingredients, telling the story and having a huge punch of emotion. I also get a series of images that have a flowing narative of the entire wedding day. Presented well and laid out in a quality album, these images produce a beautiful time capsuleof your day and become family heirlooms.
My new direction in documentary wedding photography has led me into developing my venture into Photofilms. Recording the audio soundtrack from the wedding day and carefully wrapping it around the strong imagery to present a film with punch. Bringing back the moments, the spontaneity, the laughter.
Imagery – or shall I say good photography is so, so important. But if you take this and work it alongside the audio, it brings a whole new dimension to story telling. It really is priceless to capturing the voices of a couple exchanging their vows, or the after dinner speaker responcible for rendering guests into bouts of raucus laughter. The audio recording of your wedding day, gives a story teller everything needed to bring you back to the day, time and again.
Whats more – its fun, personal (for the clients) and so individual (for me as well as the clients) 🙂
Tess and Richard’s wedding Photofilm was an enjoyable story for me to tell within this photofilm. It was also a long one…..
So many stories delivered throughout the day, that proved so hard to cut down. I tip my hat at this point to the original story tellers being so good in this film – Richard and his Best Man. A speech without a good intro, often renders the main body with no context, so bearing this in mind – the big stories are there, how they met, what brought them together – their mutual love of sailing, and their love for one another.
Their day was full of many great details and very, very personal. I loved being there and documenting it and I hope you think I have done a wonderful job in capturing it. A day full of love, laughter and I think I am safe to say, whose wedding colour scheme was all down to the Blue Footed Boobies!!
