Emma & Rob’s Autumn Colour Engagement shoot | Stourhead Wedding Photographer

On this gloomy morning, I thought it apt to share this colourful autumnal engagement shoot ith Emma & Rob. They had suggested the location and reserved the date many months ago, knowing exactly the optimum time of the year to capture its glorious colours (Rob’s mother works on the estate).

That morning setting off in the car I had my concerns, there had been a stormy night before and plenty of rain had fallen. Were there going to be any leaves left on the trees ? As I approached Sherborne I had to content with several flooded roads, then once past these I was faced with a snow covered landscape ! Was I going to be presented with colour or a beautiful white canvas instead?

Pulling up at the Stourhead estate I was happy to be presented with a slightly milder environment, no snow, only damp under foot but that was fine as it wasn’t going to influence my approach to the autumnal enagement shoot. The landscape was as we had hoped for, the trees were dressed in their finest autumn colours and the light was crisp, just perfect. The striking colours that appear in the fall are amazing on the Stourhead estate, you really cannot go wrong!

Emma & Rob were great company to be with and were great to picture. We caught up with where they were with their own wedding planning and of course talked about the weather. Weather being a subject that could not be avoided, since I had photographed Emma’s sisters wedding; Sarah earlier this year. Early July, floods throughout the country, a marquee with 6 inches of water in it and an entire wedding party wearing Wellington Boots! until this day, I was so blissfully unaware of the vast array of colours they came in!.

Its a fair walk around the lake and time certainly flew by, but with it we had a multitude of different settings to utilise as our backdrops. We bagged a lovely set of images marking their engagement period and they really stand out and prove how careful planning, knowing both location and the seasons plays it own role in capturing great photography.

What I would give to capture a bride in such a location…. It would be absolutely stunning, and I look forward to booking up my first client as a Stourhead Wedding Photographer.
