Fi & Tim - A Lytchett Minster School Wedding Full of Sunshine, Scottish Pipes and Ceilidh Chaos

Fi & Tim’s wedding at Lytchett Minster School was a first for us – and honestly, it couldn’t have landed better. Warm sunshine, a venue that felt deeply personal, and a day that swung perfectly between heartfelt and hilarious.

A little venue context

Lytchett Minster School is a properly unique Dorset wedding venue – a manor house setting with multiple licensed ceremony options including the Walled Secret Garden, the Garden Terrace, and indoor rooms like the Gallery Room.

That Secret Garden is exactly what it sounds like: secluded, sheltered, and ideal for a ceremony where everyone feels close and present, without the wind doing its thing.

Why this venue mattered to Fi

This wasn’t a random venue pick. The village connection made total sense once we learned Fi used to be a pupil here – real ties to the place, real memories, and the kind of choice that makes a wedding feel rooted rather than rented.

It set the tone straight away: personal, relaxed, and very much about celebrating with their people.

The ceremony - heart-shaped sunnies and a piper’s welcome

Guests gathered in the walled garden, tucked away from the outside world, sunlight pouring in. Then came one of those details that instantly tells you what the day’s going to be like: the bridesmaids waiting for Fi’s arrival in heart-shaped sunglasses.

Fi’s uncle is a Scottish piper, and that sound cutting through the air as she arrived was something else – ceremonial, emotional, and a little bit goosebump-inducing. And after the ceremony, he didn’t just play – he escorted the wedding party around the building to the drinks area, turning that short walk into its own moment.

A venue with space for guests to actually enjoy themselves

One of the things we loved about the grounds is how naturally guests could spread out and settle in. There’s a real sense of different pockets happening at once – exactly what you want for documentary coverage.

And the nature pond? Absolute gold for the kids. While the adults chatted and sipped, the youngsters were pond dipping for tadpoles and little creatures, completely absorbed and having the time of their lives.

The ceilidh - chaos and joy in equal measure

The standout chapter of the day was the ceilidh band and caller. If you know, you know.

They injected equal parts chaos and fun into the room and had everyone involved – guests rushing up and down the lines, a few collisions here and there, and constant laughter because nobody is pretending they’re graceful. That’s the point.

From a photography point of view, it was a dream: movement, expressions, connection, comedy – everything you’d want.

Golden hour portraits on the playing fields

As the light softened, we stole Fi & Tim away for a few gently led portraits out on the school playing fields. Nothing heavy, nothing staged – just a short breather and some space to be together, with golden hour doing what golden hour does best.

Festival bride mode - and the perfect sign-off

Later on, Fi changed into full party gear: a huge glittery sequinned jumpsuit and instant festival bride energy. A quick spin on the dancefloor with Tim, then Tim had his father-daughter dance, and at that point it felt right for us to step back and leave them to it.
