Laid Back Wiltshire Tipi Wedding of Mariela & Matt

Matt & Mariela had an English Marquee wedding. It was far more than the normal gathering of two familes. Among the gathered family & friends were three other couples. We had captured all of their weddings. Victoria – the groom’s cousin the year before. His sister, Gemma, a few years earlier. And his other cousin, Rebecca, a few years before that! It was a unique day for us, surrounded by many familiar faces. We had shared all these events. We also shared their trust in capturing these great couples’ special days.

Matt & Mariela had already had their legal ceremony, earlier in a private event. They invited us to capture their public statement of love for each other. It was a relaxed, summer English marquee wedding. Close friends held it on their family land, in the shadow of two tall oak trees. A friend led the ceremony. The couple exchanged vows. Close friends gave heartfelt tributes.

Having their legal ceremony out of the way, when we say ‘laid back English Marquee wedding’ – thats exactly as it was. No constraints on when it was all happening. All would come good in its own time – and it did!

In the morning, we moved between the main house and an art studio. The girls were at the main house and the boys were at the art studio. When the time was good, the signal was given for family and guests to be seated in the ceremony area.

Some relaxed group shots were picked off, away from the gaze of guests, before Mariela and her party walked slowly through the garden blooms. The grooms party were waiting for their arrival. They’d pair up and walk down in twos ahead of Mariela. A beautiful touch in the ceremony was the music Mariela and her parents walked down the aisle to. It was a piece composed by her father (a musician) & recorded when Mariela was a young girl.

Upon it was the sweet vocals of Mariela as a girl. She was singing away in Spanish.

Do check out their highlight film below to get a real feel for the day!

Let’s talk!

Capturing this gathering in both stills photography & film was such a pleasure. Comprehensive coverage like this lends itself so well to these sorts of days.

Unscripted events, where there is a loose plan of what and where, but so much room to ad-lib. Just think… all those friends that were simply asked to get up and say something in the ceremony and along in the wedding breakfast speeches. There’s so much opportunity for a speaker to reduce the crowd to tears – through heartfelt tenderness or laughter.

I’ve rewatched their highlight wedding film again. It reminded me of the great speeches delivered by all. It really does have the ability to transport you back to the moment.

Matt declared how, through all those ‘sliding doors’ moments that could have been missed, he finally found himself where he was meant to be. With that special partner Mariela. Things could have been so different.

Matt’s recollections on visiting and planning to ask for his daughter’s hand in marriage. the twists and turns in and arround his timing. Absoluitely comical… but you are with him, feeling his intrepidation. It’s so funny!

We can’t wait to capture more chilled out, summer vibed Wiltshire tipi weddings. If you’re planning something along these lines, do give us a shout. We’d love to be there to capture the fun, tenderness and party antics.
