What Happens During a Family Photoshoot? A Step-by-Step Guide
If you’re considering booking a family photography session in Dorset, you might be wondering what actually goes on. Will it be awkward? Will the kids cooperate? Will we know what to do?
Deep breath. Here’s a simple walk-through of how a relaxed, natural session with Smiling Tiger Studios unfolds, from hello to high-fives.
Before the Shoot
We’ll chat about the best location for your family—beach, woods, home or beyond. You’ll get advice on what to wear and how to prep (especially with little ones). I’ll ask about your family dynamic, personalities and any moments you want to capture.
Life moves fast. Let’s slow it down—just for a moment.
Arrival & Settling In
On the day, there’s no pressure to perform. I take time to help everyone settle in. We chat, wander, and let the kids get used to me being around with a camera. No “3-2-1 smile” here—just relaxed vibes.
Let the Magic Happen
We go for a walk, have a play, climb a tree, chase a toddler. You’ll laugh, you’ll connect, you’ll forget we’re even taking photos. I guide gently when needed, but mostly observe and document.
See how we do it in our documentary family photography approach.
Wrapping Up
Sessions last about an hour or so, depending on the kids. We don’t drag it out—once the magic’s been caught, we know.
After the Shoot
You’ll receive a link to a private online gallery with hand-edited images. From here you can select your favourites, order prints or albums, and share the joy with family.
Final Thoughts
This is not about perfection. It’s about emotion, connection and telling your story honestly.
