This image has been intriguing me for some time. I’ve always liked it but at the same time I have been quite reserved as to why. For me things are very simple and straight forward, there is no need to justify ones choice.
But I will….
As a photographer of Dorset weddings most images share certain attributes, and one of these is more often than not the subjects face. It in itself tells a story, it doesn’t need to be square on, evenly lit – you may just see a side profile or just a glimpse of a smile. Either way it imparts a degree of engagement from the viewer with emotion being shared more easily.
Images with no facial expression present are so different. They can quite easily just be another detail shot such as the venue setting, the grooms cuff links, the shoes etc.
Capturing mood and emotion is so very different and I think this shot does it splendidly.
Let me set the scene, this was a July wedding last year and we experienced the worst torrential rains and floods in a long time. The wedding marquee had 6″ deep puddles inside and there were very few breaks in the downpours. This was taken during one of the few breaks.
This images captures the moment perfectly with the spring in the step of the young bridesmaid running to join other children with her croquet mallet held high! What a joy for them just to be able to play!
